CD Reviews

Queen Singles Volume 1
Marilyn L. Engel | 03/22/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"An excellent collection that is a must for every Queen fan. The sound is great, and the packaging is beautiful.

I would highly recommend buying the Volume 2 collection as well. I am hoping they will complete this collection

with a 3rd volume."
Have to agree with the other reviewer

"Queen are my favorite band of all time, so it grieves me to write a review that's less than excellent, but once again we (the fans) have been duped by some more shameless repackaging.

I say "the fans" because most casual listeners aren't going to part with this sort of money for a bunch of old singles. I can't say this set is cheap.

I gave 3 stars for the singles that are here, I loved the packaging, many of them mini versions of the 7" single sleeves I still own, and the sound quality is very good.

However, it's what isn't here that keeps it at 3 stars.

Queen, played to sell out audiences World wide, why is it then that we keep getting different packaging from here in the US, to Europe, to Japan and so on?

Churning out endless re releases of Bohemian Rhapsody and We are the Champions with a shiny new cover each time is little more than a money spinning exercise.

How about the lost "B" sides, studio exclusives, and unreleased studio recordings? Now that would be something."
The carelessness continues...

"While the first volume of the Queen Singles Collection omitted all US singles, Volume 2 contains the Calling All Girls US single but skips the We Will Rock You (live) and Need Your Loving Tonight US singles. In addition, the included UK singles of Back Chat and I Want To Break Free contain remix versions of these songs, but this information isn't found anywhere on the packaging or the discs themselves. The inconsistency and carelessness displayed in these Singles releases is really sad. Queen should be ashamed of themselves for dropping the ball on this project."
