"The World's Rarest Funk 45s delivers on its promise... delivering 16 heavy-weight super-tough deep-funk ultra-rarities (as promised on the cover)- - In addition, the album is appropriately mastered (the albums have a clean/fat sound, but not over-engineered) - - Finally, the CD is well packaged, with its green nifty '60s Blue Note like monotone cover, as well as 16 pages of well researched/well written liner notes giving the story behind each and every track. (Photos and package design take a program of already great and kickin' music and fire it up to a whole new level!)

As for the selection, most have a sound with elements of JB, Dyke and The Blazers, Archie Bell and the Drells... even a touch of the Meters... Driving horns and bass lines, funky fatbackin' drum beats, plenty of mean guitar stroking... groovy Hammond, Maceo-like horn blowing and bands that often alternate between singing and "rappin'" back and forth about various things from partying down and having a good time to social commentary - - not a single throw-away track in the whole package... For sure, a true treat for the discerning gritty down home in your face late '60s/early '70s pre-disco funk fanatic...

So only two questions remain: Will there be a Vol. 3... and what about the flip-sides?

If you like this album make sure you have THE FUNKY 16 CORNERS, COLD HEAT, SEARCHING FOR SOUL and some of the other great funk compilations that have been surfacing in recent years... (Listening to this album puts me in the mood to play "What about you in the world today?"/Co-Real Artists - - 16 Corners for the seemingly trillionth time... so off I go..."
