"There is no doubt that this band would appeal to fans of bands that use the soft/loud dynamic style [or the misused shoegazing term], such as 'Ride', 'The Catherine Wheel' or 'Slowdive'. But I think fans of U.S. melodic post hardcore [emocore another misused term] bands like 'Sunny Day Real Estate' or 'Juno' will love this cd as well. It is both pretty and vicious in nature, in short it will rock your butt off. Oh and the guys from 'Placebo' should listen to it to hear what a real talented band sounds like."

"Puressence is a highly underrated uk band! Their sound is inspired by Joy Division (and Stone Roses?), and yet they have their own unique style and sound, which is deep, intimate and fantastic, mainly due to the amazingly soft and intense voice of leadsinger James Mudrizcki, and the Joy Division-like drum rhythms. Their music is bittersweet, painful, melancholic and capturing, without turning into a cliché, and the lyrics are even intelligent! This is a cd for late night driving or walking in the rain with the music in your walkman, and I deeply recommend it."

A very soulful and yet alive band

"I once saw this band live at the Leeds Music Festival in Leeds, England, summer 1995. The music comes across as thought provoking and throaty. Throaty, in that the lead singer has this raspy type waver in his tone. The music has feeling and most importantly is something new in this age of sound the same bands. This is probably the best band to come out of the Manchester area since the Inspiral Carpets, and is considerably better than other more popular English bands (Oasis or Pulp). The band provides sound for the thoughtful listener and those who still wish to understand the words in a song will be happy. It is soothing, yet upbeat and provocative. It's definitly worth the money."
