CD Reviews

Awesome voice, but outdated sounds...

"This is Pura Fe's first CD, a collection of RnB and Jazz inspired songs. Her voice is beautiful as always, but the songs are very pop sounding and totally different than her recent work. The CD is worth buying for a few songs that stand out: Wait Til You Come Back is an awesome bluesy song in which Pura Fe laments about her distant love. Her voice reaches rare heights that are right up there with Aretha Franklin or Patty LaBelle and the background harmonies are excellent.

Great Grandpa's Banjo is a Native American chant with her acapella group Ulali.

Roots/Find the Cost of Freedom is the stand out track on this compilation, with native chants, drumming and an amazing version of the folk song by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, this song makes the CD's purchase worth it."
Love the voice, but this is her popalbum

"I love her voice/technique, but this album is pop from the nineties.

I think one or two songs hit me, but not as good as the other albums.

Not what I expected.

"As a fan of her work with Ulali, I bought this CD hoping for more of Pura Fe's magical voice. Indeed, her voice rings out as beautifully in this album as in others, but the style is VERY different as a whole. With the exception of one song that also makes an appearance on the Ulali CD and the last song that draws on her heritage, all the other tracks are more along the lines of "Pura Fe does easy listening style music". If you're into that kind of music, you may love this CD; but I'm not much for the kind of music she primarily sings in "Caution to the Wind", despite how amazing her voice is. Also, a few of the lyrics are somewhat cliche, with phrases such as "Loving you is easy as 1-2-3"; but most of it isn't that bad."
