Di Stefano as Rodolfo sounds great for the most part, only occasionally swallowing the tone. That man can really float a pianissimo when he puts his mind to it! Licia Albanese, the most popular Mimi of her day, is delightful and a perfect match for the di Stefano charm. The rest of the cast is very good, as it is made up of the top names in the Italian wing of the opera world of its day. A fine glimpse into the past of how opera was done 50 years ago. Don't you wish they could sing that well these days! The stereo sound is spacious and the quality much better than other items in this series, although obviously not up to modern digital recording standards.
