"This review refers to "The Origin of the Species, Vol. 2" This collection of Psychic TV songs cover the band's techno/rave era, circa 1988-1992, which was right after their pop/rock phase, which proceeded their noise/strange pop phase. If you're looking for something different and cutting edge, I wouldn't buy this collection, and instead pick up earlier Psychic TV or PTV stuff released after 1992.Because electronic music evolves incredibly fast, this collection will definitely sound dated, but it still holds a few gems such as "B-On-E" "Blue Pyramid" and the classic "Turn on, Tune In To the Acid House." The first disc starts out with a couple of dancy numbers and then gets into stranger soundscapes, and then back into the groovier stuff. Disc 2 is the same, and contains the collection's most difficult song "It's LA." The song is 10 minutes long and doesn't offer much in the way of variation: it's just a weird slippery bass groove, with a simple beat -- but it's fun for the first few minutes. The discs come with a great collection of liner notes and pictures, which helps put into context what Psychic TV were trying to accomplish back then. But let's face it, regardless of the claims by Genessis, the band's eccentric lifeforce, Psychic TV did not invent "techno" "rave" or any other electronic dance music. There's simply too much evidence to the contrary -- though they did have their influence. If you like this, you'll also like "Origin of the Species, Vol. 1." So tune in..."
