CD Reviews

Looks promising, but kind of disappointing

"Track Listing:

1) HeartBreak Beat - single mix (4:06): This is the single edit of the title track, which can also be found on the 80's compilation cd "On The Edge". However this is an edited version and not the original edit of the single version. Those who have the videoclip of HeartBreak Beat on your hard drives will know the difference.

2) The Ghost In You - single mix (3:37): Simply a shortened edit of the album version, nothing too special about it.

3) All That Money Wants (3:47): Classic album version.

4) Sister Europe - single mix (4:21): Shortened album version.

5) No Easy Street (4:05): Album version.

6) Pretty In Pink - original version (4:00): Album version off Talk Talk Talk. Can be found in plenty of compilation releases (Greatest Hits, All Of This & Nothing, Should God Forget: A Retrospective etc...)

7) Heaven - single mix (3:28): This one i don't understand, there's nothing "mixed" about it, its just the regular album version off Mirror Moves, big disapppointment for those that expected a re-recorded version, like the single mix of Until She Comes. Great track on its own, but many Furs fans are already used to it.

8) No Tears (3:18): Regular album version off Talk Talk Talk.

9) Angels Don't Cry - single mix (3:57): Nice track, original single version of the song, although it can also be found on the Greatest Hits compilation cd.

10) Sleep Comes Down (3:51): Regular album version.

This pretty much sums it up. Just received my copy today and i at least expected some great unreleased tracks, something special, but NOOOOOO, i was disappointed greatly. This compilation is mostly good for collectors who would want to have every album released by the Furs, but for those that were expecting some wild remixes, give it a miss. I know it seems so promising at first, but it's nothing too special."
It IS the original 7" version of "Heartbreak Beat"

"The previous reviewer claims that the version of "Heartbreak Beat" on this is not the original single version.... However, as someone who has always preferred the single version of this song to the longer and less propulsive album version, I can say that it exactly matches my 7" vinyl original-release 45 RPM single from 1987. (The 12" version is available on the B-sides/12" CD.)

I looked up the video clip on YouTube and there is, indeed, some difference in the versions. All I can think of is that there was a different "video version." The version on this CD and the version on my original 7" vinyl single from 1987 are exactly the same.

Otherwise, a good introduction to the band, possibly the best for the new listener, as it contains most of the best songs (bar "Love My Way"), the superior 7" version of "Heartbreak Beat," and is quite an economical purchase."
