CD Reviews

Straight ahead jazz from a reknowned folksinger
J. B Brent | Oak Ridge, Tennessee USA | 01/17/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Those who remember Shelby Flint's early '60s folk singing will find a change of pace on PROVIDENCE. This 1993 pairing with Guitarist Tim Weston, and backed by an ensemble of pianists and sax players, demonstrates her facility for improvisational jazz. She meets the challenge of wrapping a melody around his and the other players' musical wanderings while making it appear effortless. Very similar to the style of Sheila Jordan. Some tracks are instrumentals.
This title went out of print, but I was lucky to score a cut-out copy for 25 cents! Seeking this out is definitely worth the effort."
