Synopsis

Album Description
TALES OF A PRIOR WORLD Like a soundtrack to an imaginary film, ?Tales of a Prior World? brings together a rich array of sounds, old and new, and sits at the musical crossroads of many traditions. Inspired by the modal, fusion jazz of Miles Davis and John McLaughlin, as well as ambient pioneers Brian Eno, Mark Isham and Bill Laswell, ?Prior World? creates a flowing tapestry of sound combining electric and acoustic guitars and traditional world percussion with the modern voices of synthesizers and sampling. Street scenes from a crowded Middle Eastern market in ?Cairo?, a thunderous afternoon rainstorm on the African plains in ?Prior World?, far-away sounds of a lost children?s playground in ?Dhoopi?s Dream?, rich synthetic textures over exotic beats ? these are the mysterious and evocative ?Tales of a Prior World?. It is music for the head and heart, of East meeting West, of then and now?

CD Reviews

Jazzy dream tunes
Ron Hollings | New York, NY | 12/10/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I really like this CD. The tunes ranged from a jazzy latin-styled up-tempo number to a very spacy ambient guitar duet, with what sounded like kid's toys in the background. Their sound kind of reminds me of early electric Miles with a little bit of acoustic Mahavishnu mixed in. There is also very nice synth and keyboard textures throughout that bridge chords from jazz and 20th c. classical music - very sophisticated. I would be very interested to hear what these guys do next. Ron Hollings
