It Could Have Been Worse
Rainer Krack | Bangkok Thailand | 02/06/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Given the complexity of the songs in "S.F.Sorrow", the Pretty Things don't fare too badly with this, the belated "live" internet redition of their classic sixties album. Of course, there is no way they can pull off anything close to the marvelous studio version - just like the Beatles would have had major problems playing Sgt. Pepper's live. But then it could have been much worse. One big disappointment to me is Arthur Brown, who relates the proceedings of this first "rock opera" between songs. His voice comes across as reedy, feeble and completely unconvincing. It would have been better if the band had employed a true professional for the job, like a BBC news reader or a British stage actor - no kidding. All in all, this is an album for hard-core Pretty Things fans, but this record on its own won't win them any new converts. It's a pity, since the original "S.F. Sorrow" is such a timeless master-piece. Go for that one instead."
You can program out all the talking!!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I recently aquired this and found it to be quite enjoyable. The talking can be a bit annoying as another reviewer wrote but it you can program them right out and you have a terrific performance of a great album worth hearing. I do recommend buying it because it is a great feat for these guys to record this(the who couldnt perform quadrophenia for years either)album. Pick it up only 10,000 to be had and I own one of them."
