Album DescriptionBorn from a friendship based initially on a mutual affection for Carnation Instant Breakfast and Kiss Army merchandise, guitarist Devon Goldberg and bassist John Castro moved from Las Vegas to San Diego and eventually began playing music together. However, it took over fifteen years, a move to the East Coast, and the bribing of drummer Stephen Calhoon with tenth generation Trouble Funk live recordings to birth Pretendo. Goldberg?s list of musical projects ? Creedle, aMiniature, Rust, The DaoSon For, Morricone Youth ? is long. With The Rugburns, The DaoSon For and Morricone Youth, so is Castro?s. Calhoon?s is less long but more recent: Skeleton Key and Enon. With Pretendo, Goldberg and Castro shed the progressive rock leanings for a more straight-ahead approach. The guitars ring with vibrant urgency, and although they can get jittery and down with the math, Goldberg?s hyper strumming is more Unrest than King Crimson.
