CD Reviews

Awesome

"My first foray into the world of Praga Khan was back in '99, when I got his totally kick-A album "Twenty-first Century Skin". I consider it a classic (already). The "Mutant Funk" follow-up in 2000 was palatable, but nothing which I felt the need to play over and over again. Now, with the sublime "Freakazoidz", I'm happy to say that I've found the energy....and begun to move. This CD rocks. From the very first track, "Glamour Girl", I knew things were looking up. The quality continues from there. The title track is also great, as are "Visions of Heaven" and "Because of You". The style masterfully utilizes Praga Khan's great usage of hard, heavy beats with synth machines at full blast. What sets Praga Khan apart from other artists in this genre is his ability to not only barrage us with club/techno sounds, but to develop great tunes and melodies with them, to actually give us a song. He is obviously quite adept at making good music, as this, and other albums, more than prove. This review wouldn't be complete without a special mention of track 5, "Tausend Sterne". This track simply runs away with itself. It is sung completely in what I am pretty sure is German, and that may possibly add to its coolness. I have no idea what he is saying, and that sort of helps lift me up into the raging melody. The tune for this song is wonderful. I think it's far too short. It's been awhile since I've set a song on repeat. This one is definitely there.Praga Khan has done it again. If he keeps making albums as good as "Freakazoidz" and the ones that have come before it, I have no doubt that I will continue to look forward to when his new albums are released --- and buy them when they are."

"this album has worked its way into the heart of every queen, butch/femme, straight and bisexual guy i know! even the ladies will love this one. the album starts off with the inta-hit GlamourGirl's well-spaced and intricate synth compos and very simple drums making for an already auralgasmic album, moving into perfect car commercial sounds like visions of heaven and PERFECT nighttime driving trax like Kinky World before progressing into the unsurpassable and odd synth and drum mating rites of Picture This and the pseudo-hindu true ecstasy vibe of Look to the Future just before it f*cks your brains out with the title trak, which i won't even describe 4 u. just listen and slip n2 heaven! from there, excellent trax wind u down and make for an all-purpose LP. 2 bad LoA doesn't end up more like this (see VooDoo-U for their best)."
Praga aint lost it

"The first album I bought of PK's was 21st Century Skin. I still, to this day think it was the best I ever bought. When I got Freekazoidz I expected big things. I think I expected too bigger things than he, or anyone else, could give. The truth is that this is a more HARDER album than 21st. The music is still driven by an acidic melody but the beats are harsher and harder and the synthesising has taken a back seat. What is on the album though is definently still good. It has amazing vocals on all tracks and has hard-hitting melodies coupled with hard beats. All in all Praga has not lost it. I still love him and I hope that the future albums will be more like Visions of Heaven (where PK smashes the beats around but then fades into beautiful drugged up synthesising melodies).Great Album!!!!"
