Synopsis

Album Description
Jonathan and Jennifer Adams have succeeded in creating their own unique blend of beautifully enchanting music with the rare combination of cello and guitar. Drawing on a diverse repertoire from classical and ethnic music to jazz and popular styles, the duo's program is among the most original today. This unique and rare combination, that joins lyric poetry of the cello with the diversity and charm of the guitar, has entertained and inspired a wide variety of audiences. Jonathan Adams and Jennifer Thomas met in 1994, while both were studying music in Athens, GA at the University of Georgia. The two met, by chance, on a practice break in the University practice rooms. Friendship quickly blossomed and they soon began to discuss the possibility of trying out some chamber music together. However, since the guitar and cello combination is virtually unprecedented, the duo had quite a tough time finding repertoire to play, as Jonathan explains: "On our first trip to the University Library, which contains, literally, hundreds of thousands of pieces music, I think we found two pieces...that were pretty bad arrangements! We then took our search to the internet where we were fortunate to find a book of fine arrangements by a Japanese publisher. Throughout the years, however, we have developed many of our own arrangements of classical pieces as well as world music and original compositions. The fact that our duo doesn't have a "ready made" repertoire is very exciting and challenging for us both. We love arranging and composing new pieces for our group and we love the opportunity to create a new musical blend and present music in a way that has never been experienced before." Friendship quickly developed into romance and after many dates...and gigs, Jonathan and Jennifer decided to make their collaboration permanent. The Thomas-Adams duo became the "Adams Duo" in December of 1997. Since then the Adams duo has performed in a wide variety of venues from cafes to concert hall.
