Something's Changed
PHILIP S WOLF | SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA. USA | 05/18/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After A Twenty Year Break, this was the Return of Plainsong. The Cast includes Iain Matthews: Vocals & Guitars, Andy Roberts: Vocals, Guitars, Dulcmer, Mandolin, Bass Guitar, Julian Dawson: Vocals, Harmonica, Banjo and Guitars & Bass Guitars and Mark Griffiths: Guitars, Mandolin and Bass Guitars & Vocals.

As the first Plainsong Record: 'Amelia' is held in such high regard among the 'Plainfolk', How does "Dark Side of the Moon" hold up? Well, folks this one is a Keeper, this Version of the Band features Iain & Andy in Excellant Form, BUT the difference here is that Julian Dawson & Mark Griffiths really take the Quality Level up a few Knotches. This is a Beautiful Sounding Production with los of separation & clarity, as the band themselves carried Production Duties they have Nailed this one.

What about the Songs? in a Word WOW !!! Iain has brought in the Opener; "Nothing's Changed" and it set's the tone of what is to Follow. I believe this tune is one of Iain's very finest, Perfect harmonies and ringing acoustic Guitars will give you a Smile every time. From the BIG IM Songbook, "Evening Sun", "Say a Prayer". "Sweet Amelia(Cloud Nine)" "The Dream Goes On", "Next time Around" and "Toscanini's Dark Horse" are GEMS, but the Secret Weapon of 'Dark Side' is Julian Dawson; his Contributions: "Under the Volcano","If I Needed Rain" and "Welcome to London Town" are Fantastic tunes and his Unusual Voice fits in perfect here, this man is the GOODS and his participation here makes a Four-Star Record a FIVE STAR DIAMOND.

"DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" is a Great CD, As I Listen to everything Iain Matthews releases and I am very biased about my Praise of his Work, I will say out of the over 60 CD's of his I have Collected, this One along with "Pure & Crooked" and "Skeleton Keys" are the Top Three on my List and I Play these three the Most... FIVE STARS"
