CD Reviews

It's good, but...
04/15/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I would identify three main 'trends' in P5 music--their trend of dancy, electronic-style beats; their trend toward latin jazz or 40's and 50's american big band sounding percussion and rythm; and their trend of 80's american pop/50's american oldies. On that scale, this album is far over on the latin-jazzy side or big band side of things. If you're a big fan of P5 and have followed their music from its mainly instrumental recordings in the late 80's to the present, you almost feel that they've come back to something similar to the 'original' Pizzicato 5 sound. That having been said, this album is good, but leaves the listener feeling, 'well, I've heard this already.' It's a good album, and if you haven't heard older stuff like "Bellisima," "By Her Majesty's Request," or the TV soundtrack they did to "Hi Guys, Let Me Teach You," this album will seem pretty damn cool. It's very good, but it's not "Overdose" or "Bossa Nova 2000" (which, formed the core of the American release "Made in USA"). Weekend and Magic Candle are very good tracks, and so is Drinking Wine."
