CD Reviews

The rest is no Grace Kelly With Wings
04/14/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you have heard Grace Kelly With Wings and liked it then buy this. These guys rock hard. But I must say I was taken back when I heard all the songs that came after Grace Kelly.... The rest is nothing I would call emo by even a long shot. That song has a lot of emotion, but the rest has more resemblence to something like Digger. It rocks, has funny lyrics, and has a great variety. But, if you're looking for more things along the lines of Grace Kelly... then beware, the rest is no Grace Kelly With Wings."
When Life Hands You Lemons, You Post Them Online
Matthew Clark | Miami, Florida USA | 12/04/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"...underground and independent music is becoming much more accessible, and opening thousands and millions of new ears to sounds they might have missed. One of these gems is the band Piebald. Piebald's most recent full-length release is the album you're reading the review of, "If It Weren't For Venetian Blinds, It'd Be Curtains For Us All". The title pretty much sums up the band; clever, funny, and just a little dark. With a lyrical style similar to the musings of They Might Be Giants and low-fi guitars dodging in and out of break-heavy drums, they quite simply tear it up. Live they will make you a believer. This album is a pretty good way to get into this now-defunct band. Songs like "If Marcus Garvey Dies, then Marcus Garvey Lives" and "We Believe in Karma" they'll get yourself singing along. Music is going to change very much in the future, what with the advent of new technology for recording and storage, and the fantastic "Venetian Blinds" album will sit in the archive, knowing its greatness, and knowing it may have changed the face of music. But who am I to say? Piebald and I are mustard and mayonnaise...we'll ketchup with you later."
