Synopsis

Amazon.com
This is a confident, hip, and soulful Toronto group whose foundations are jazz and R&B. Such is their stylistic reach that the only effective description is contemporary pop. Gerald Eaton is a distinctive frontman, Jon Levine's lyrics have intriguing substance, and the music takes all kinds of chances--aside from a safe-as-milk "Just Like A Woman". "Turn My Head Around" is an infectiously jazzy track and "All To Myself" has a sharp streetcorner groove, but it's the Simply Red-like "Charms" that really stands out. --Jeff Bateman

"I loved this CD when I bought it 4 years ago (and I love it still!), and I'm wondering, when are they gonna come out with something new? Come on guys!"
Wonderful discovery!

"I was browsing in a used CDs store, came across this CD, and thought "With a name like 'Philosopher Kings,' I've got to check them out!"
Taking a look at the front cover with the upright bass did it for me... I had to give them a listen.
A quick ten-minute preview through the CD there at the store, and there was no doubt I was walking out with it... what a gem!
Somewhere between intelligent pop/rock & soulful jazz with a touch of funk, it was a joy on first listen through, but has also continued to grow on me.
Now that I know they've got another CD available, I'll *have* to get that one too..."
