CD Reviews

Great Arab hip-hop cd
Green Wizard | Liberated Appalachia | 12/10/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I ran across this while looking for music to dj for a Lebanon relief benefit, and yes, there are some great beats and lyrics here. The only downside is I am not fluent in Arabic and there are no english liner notes. But, that's a great reason to find a friend fluent and learn more, right? I have used this in numerous dj sets I do along with other great Arab hip-hop like The Philistines and N.O.M.A.D.S.

This compilation supports an important cause and is one of the few easily accessible cd's I have found with female hip-hop artists included, so it is worth it just for that if nothing else.

The cd sounds well produced and the documentary about the Slingshot Hip-Hop video project this is a part of is also cool. Check that out for those interested in more resources like this. I originally came across this on theFree the P site and is a good resource for people looking from more music like this one. Wikipedia also has a good compilation of Arab Hip Hop like this listed."

"First I am not Arab or Palestinian, so when I came across the group DAM I had to found out more about this compilation. The beats are off the hook and definately worthy of attention from Underground heads who enjoy politically driven lyrics and spoken word. Currently my favorite tracks are No Compromises and Free Palestine."
Free the P! A Must-Have!

"What an amazing compilation CD! There are some songs and spoken word selections that are better than others, but I loved the whole CD. I would highly recommend this purchase if you want to support art and hip hop music. The purchase of this CD also helps fund a documentary called 'Sling Shot Hip Hop' about Palestinian rap/hiphop as a form of expression in the Israeli/Palestinian territories. A must-have for hip hop or rap enthusiasts and especially for those who want to support a great cause."
