CD Reviews

Leitch.. a master bebop player.....
Anders Jonasson | Bankeryd Sweden | 07/29/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It is a pity that noone have reviewed this one... or most of Leitch other CD:s for that matter. We are talking about one of the best bebop guitarists of all time here,,,, he can swing and groove harder than most players. What I always have loved about Leitch'playing is his drive, timefeeling mixed with a fantastic bluesfeeling. He is of course also very techical and at times it can be too much if you a are not a guitarlover...... Leitch has his roots "heavily" in the bebop of the 50:s.. his influences are.. Jimmy Raney, the Belgian guitarist Rene Thomas and Kenny Burrell ( I suppose this is where is blues feeling comes from) but he also have been somewhat influnenced by McCoy Tyner and Wayne Shorter and that is what makes him much more intersting than most other bebopguitarists in my opinion. There are a lot of highlights to "dig into" from the wonderful rendition of McCoy Tyners "Blues on the Corner" to Momks "Bemsha Swing" to Leitch own "K Zee" where he plays the head in unison with singer Kendra Shank. The only problem I see with Peter Leitch music is that it sometimes are... frankly ...too good and to beautiful... do we in our hectic time have the time to sit down and really listen????? I am sure that a lot of people should "feel well" after they been listening to this guitarmaestro. HIHGLY RECOMMENDED."
