Superlative brass arrangements

"It is unfortunate that so little of Peter Herbolzheimer is known in this country (or so it seems). I first heard his music less than two years ago and was totally knocked out by his band's superlative playing. This CD is somewhat of a 1970's "greatest hits" compilation containing live and studio tracks. The music is thoroughly '70's hip and still sounds great today. Some of the music is absolutely stunning, such as "Neosho" with its awesome brass arranging and "The Mixolydian Highlander" with its almost Gregorian fervor. The CD is top quality with several photographs, detailed tune and personnel descriptions and liner notes in both German and English. This CD is a fine prelude to Herbolzheimer's Marvelous 1997 "Colors of a Band," which sadly, is apparently no longer available. If inventive, cutting-edge big band jazz is your bag, you can't go wrong here."
