CD Reviews

Fascinating Album

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Any true Peter Gabriel fan needs to listen to this album just to hear how the songs change in German. In particular, Eindringling (Intruder) and Schnappschuss (Family Snapshot) get a new dimension to the feelings of isolation and loneliness. For my part, I don't speak much German at all, but I loved the way Peter Gabriel's songs sound. It's definitely worth picking up."
Ein deutsches review

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first purchased this LP when it was released. My albums were put away in the attic after I started buying CDs. Today I bought the CD and I am now listening to it for the first time in 10 years.
First of all, I am a huge Peter Gabriel fan (I did invite him to my wedding, after all). Second of all, I don't speak a word of German beyond "geshundheit." Having said that-- WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME THAT I DIDN'T WANT TO LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM FOR A DECADE?
This album is the German version of PG3("Melt" as it is commonly called) which is excellent in English; it is now a classic. Every Peter Gabriel fan owns it and my friends who are not fans still consider this one of the great rock albums. I am sure Peter initially did this version as an intellectual exercise. But it works so fantastically in German, that if this album had never been sung in English, "ein deutsches album" would still be a classic. It works so well in German, that Peter did the same thing with his next album "Security"-- but that is another review."
