CD Reviews

BOY FROM OZ MASTERPIECE~BRAVO PETER ALLEN!!!
Bradly Briggs | TOLUCA LAKE, CALIFORNIA | 11/11/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Peter Allens creative flow and soulful vocal form were in every way at their peak in this classic collection of brilliant songs. A great mix of stirring ballads and rhythm rockers starts off with the dramatically sweeping "I COULD HAVE BEEN A SAILOR" which is the definitve version as Peter gives a passionate performance surrounded by a great arrangement that soars with his great vocal. Wild rhythm rockers "DON'T WISH TOO HARD" and "ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES" have Peter at his energetic and soulful best. Peter was always wonderful to watch in concert when he would just sit at the piano and passionately sing his heart out and this collection has many of his great ones including two standards "DON'T CRY OUT LOUD" and "I'D RATHER LEAVE WHILE I'M IN LOVE" which were also brilliantly covered by MELISSA MANCHESTER and DUSTY SPRINGFIELD respectively. Two more ballads that are pure magic is the illuminating "IF YOU WERE WONDERING" and the passionate and revealing "WE'VE COME TO AN UNDERSTANDING". "TWO BOYS" is a brilliant look at two brothers who grow up with everything the same yet one goes for the girls and the other doesn't and being the masterful pro that Peter always was the very best is saved for last and what an epic finale "PARIS AT 21" is...tour-de-force classic song was stunning in concert and is stunning here and a great way to end a magnificent collection of original songs...thank you Peter and we love and miss you!!! Do not miss out on this rare and incomparable masterpiece as it does not get better than this!!!"
