Synopsis

Album Description
Pete Morton is a singer/songwriter and guitarist, 'among the best the British roots music scene has produced in living memory.' Peter hails from Leicester, England , and has been treading the world's folk music-friendly stages for over a decade. The thrill and potency of Morton's performances stand as legendary: his jugular-grabbing directness, intensity and emotive power as a songwriter, and singular energy and stylistic presence as a performer will indelibly lodge themselves on the hearts and minds of any listening audience. --Sarah Coxson, from her liner notes

Pete Morton has a good voice for Folk music, and a lot of good emotion, but I didn't find the music that interesting. I guess I prefer a larger ensemble of instruments and more variety in the sounds of the songs.
I did like the song 'On Your Side', the vocals were good and the instrumental bits catchy. 'Eternity' has a nice string addition in the background.

I was led to try this CD because I came across one of his songs, Another Train, in the Acoustic Folk Box (a great sampling of folk music). Other artists I preferred from there: Dervish, Fernhill, Maddy Prior, House Band, and Pentangle.

Beautiful hidden gem

"Here in the US, Pete Morton is pretty much unknown. I found this CD in a dollar bin at a half-price bookstore, and was intrigued by the cover, and gave it a shot. It was one of the best purchases I ever made.

Pete Morton's songwriting is quite simple and straightforward on the surface, but incredibly original and deep as well. The music is lovely, acoustic guitar-driven folk, but somehow Morton always manages to find a new sound, a chord progression that seems natural as the sunrise, but also feels fresh and new, not like any other folk music I can think of.

And then the words... His lyrics are what blow me away. I'm not someone who tends to listen that hard to the words of a song. I'm a professional musician, and I'm generally most interested in the musical content. But Pete Morton's lyrics are elegant, full of grace, wit, and above all else wisdom.

And his voice... beautiful in its own unique way, but also full of intense passion and grit. To my ears, he sounds a bit like a less polished Peter Gabriel... less polished in a good way; not so smooth sounding, but rather always on the edge of extreme emotion.

In any case, a brilliant album, and by far my favorites of the ones I've heard of his. (Which are the 3 available on Amazon US) The production lends lovely touches, but mostly stays out of the way of these solid, moving songs."
