Pesky Gee - 'Exclamation Mark' (Castle)
Mike Reed | USA | 09/05/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Originally put out on the Pye Records label in 1969. Some may not be aware of it, but this short-lived project, Pesky Gee was actually a pre-Black Widow band. From what I got the impression of, 'Exclamation Mark' was a so-so 'progressive' effort that had ONE too many covers. The music here is okay, just nothing to get too tanked up about. I liked "Pigs Foot" and "Piece Of Mind" and all but thought the number of covers here were over doing it. Didn't so much as mind Donovan's "Season Of The Witch", Janis Joplin's hit "Piece Of My Heart" and Steppenwolf's mile stone (sort to speak) "Born To Be Wild" but this is one of those discs I likely wouldn't listen to that often. Personnel: Kay Garrett-lead vocals, Kip Trevor-guitar, harmonica & vocals, Bob Bond-bass, Alan Hornsby-brass, Clive Jones-flute & sax and Clive Box-drums. Pretty much aimed toward the collectors and die-hards."
