In the early 1970's, way down south in Miami, Cuban immigrants and their sons and daughters assimilated the sounds of American funk and rock `n roll and soon arrived at their own version. A burgeoning music scene thrived w... more »ithin the city limits and Cuban music bands starting springing up all over the place - filling VFW halls, hotels, restaurants, and beach resorts. Two of the most popular of these bands were the latin- funk rock outfits Pearly Queen and Wild Wind. This CD is the first of its kind to provide a complete overview of both groups, which until now has only been available to the collector on 12" vinyl or 7" wax. The 7" singles "Quit Jivin'", "Nosotros" and others on this compilation, have been staples on the underground "rare funk" scene for years and sell for as much as $650 per disc on the international collector's market. Both Pearly Queen and Wild Wind drew audiences as far away as England, where they remain highly sought after by collectors of Latin funk and rock. These two groups played in many a battle-of-the-bands, and although no live recordings are known to exist, we present these two groups how they might have sounded over 30 years ago, battling it out on the bandstand, back to back, spurring each other on.« less
