CD Reviews

Vintage Hardrock
Rob Runyon | Cincinnati, Ohio United States | 10/27/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a CD you need to listen to a couple of times to appreciate how good it really is. It has a very dated 60's acid rock sound. Raw and unpolished by todays standards, but the guitar work by John Uzoni is excellent. If you like 60's "Hippie" psychedelic music, ala Fridgid Pink, or Blue Cheer you will like this. Not easy breezy trippy stuff like the Gratefull Dead , but hard edged guitar rock. A couple of slow songs too. I really liked it."

"I just pulled this album out for another spin...after not having heard it since I bought it in 04. Anyway, this is heavy before it was popular to be so! Man Alive, it may be raw and unpolished, but who cares with that much power and attitude. I believe my fellow "music fan" isn't interested in heavy-psych...And that's ok, but one cannot discount their music because they think they can define "60's psych". I wouldn't want to wreck by doing so. Therefore, if you are in the mood for some heavy music that could have been "heavy metal" if they had such a beast back in 1968... Peacepipe is your ticket!!!!"

"An obscure band from somewhere in California (circa 1968-1969), resurrected by well-established German archeologists of "Shadocks Music"*.

Heavy acid rock - top class, with absolutely smashing virtuoso guitar on "A Bikers Tune" - listen, it could easily give a good run for the money to any of "guitar gods" of 80s & 90s - OK, they knew HOW to play, but didn't know WHAT. That's real music - loud, proud, and the guitar really talks...

A true nostalgic trip to raw flesh and dripping blood of psychedelia - that's not some anorexic lifeless stoner of today.

Jon Uzonyi - guitar, vocals; Gary Tsuruda - drums; Rick Abts - keyboards - could be next to the "Doors" on stage.

The engineer: Eric Wangberg (If that's the guy who converted the master tapes to the CD, his name should be in R &R Hall Of Fame).

Great artwork. Notes by Clark Faville are sentimental, but disappointing: when? who? how? Discography (if any?)...

* "Shadocks Music" - a goldmine, whose owners are trying hard to bankrupt me: SuckTime to Suck; The FlowGreatest Hits; San Francisco's ShiverShiver - we can go on almost endlessly"
