CD Reviews

Exploitation on the Cheap
Richard L. Gordon | State College, PA USA | 05/24/2008
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I ordered despite seeing on line before purchase that most of the selections were in the massive, beautifully executed Pavarotti Edition. I hoped the extras would be worth the expense. Unfortunately, the execution was shoddy. The set in packaged in flimsy cardboard. The discography is limited to his Universal-labels sound recordings-no DVDS, no EMI, no RCA, and, of course, none of the many unauthorized issues of opera-house performance recordings. The biography is meagre, the booklet attains its length by providing multiple translations, and unlike the Edition, song texts and translations are absent. Pavarotti lovers should buy the Edition; at best the Story is for those unfamiliar with the great tenor."
