Next Big Thing Out Of Ireland
Sufi | Clemson, SC | 05/28/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this CD while in Dingle, Ireland, from a nice young woman--who turned out to be Pauline Scanlon! She was helping out a friend by working at her music shop (Dingle Record Shop, owned by Mazz O'Flaherty). Before I listened to the CD, I saw Scanlon at a concert in the Anglican Church in Dingle. I was blown away at how good she is! Later, in a pub, I was talking with a local who predicted that Scanlon will be the next big singer out of Ireland, and I don't doubt it. I have since listened to this CD, and it's brilliant. Her voice is soothing yet emotive; and the choice of songs, each of which tells a story, really shows off her talent. The musical accompaniment, which includes her boyfriend, the producer of the album, and genius guitar player Donogh Hennessy, is outstanding. The flavor I would describe as up-tempo traditional, for lack of a better term and of musical expertise; it somehow manages to be relaxing and energetic at once."
