Synopsis

Amazon.com
A combination CD-DVD set, Global acts as a handy greatest hits collection of Paul van Dyk's wildly popular brand of shiny trance, featuring two previously unreleased tracks along with a mix of his best-known work. While he's justifiably famous as a DJ, it's really van Dyk's production, filled with shimmering electronics and relentlessly upbeat rhythms, that sets his recorded work apart from the pack. His knack for catchy hooks turns songs like "Another Way" from 2000's Out There and Back into swirling epics designed for jolting the dance floor into glowstick overdrive. Of the record's two previously unreleased tracks, "Animacion" sounds more like Van Dyk's recent work. The other, "My World," with its speedy, early-trance-house feel, may have sat in the back of Van Dyk's record crate for years. The DVD includes live footage, interview snippets, fan testimonials, and a 5.1 surround-sound mix. --Matthew Cooke

"Paul van Dyk is a master at creating upbeat, emotional trance. On Global, PVD has decided to mix up a set of his most popular records. The result is nothing less than spectacular. The minute you here the vocal on "We Are Alive" (a beautiful track about a one night stand) you will understand the reason trance dominated the clubbing community for so long. PVD's style of trance is powerful yet palatable. The type of music that could move people at a global level because its messages transcend boundaries like government, religion, or language. This single mix methaphorically represents a time in dance music culture circa 2000-2002 when soaring vocals and drum rolls defined the dance floor. Of course, PVD was one of the few DJs in the genre to deliver something of substance that was still uplifting. In fact, most of his brethren (Sasha & Digweed, Dave Seamen, Danny Howells, etc.) passed on this style and instead delivered darker mixes that relied more on overall programming and continuity and less on emotion.Personally, I think this is a must have for anyone who wants an introduction to trance music or for those die hard PVD fans out there that just want to have all of his tunes on hand. The energy on this mix makes it perfect for a party, a long drive, or a run.My only negative comment is that this style of trance tends to be much simpler than the complex textures and melodies one would find in progressive house. Therefore, the mix gets tired after a few listens and needs to be rested before it can be enjoyed again. This is my personal opinion of course, and you could very well disagree. Do not hesitate to buy PVD's Global. It is one of those rare trance compilations that deserves the label "must have.""
Awesome!

"Beautiful. Van Dyks best, mixed by the best (him). Some older tracks, and some new ones...all in all...a great job. The DVD blew my mind...much different from the DVDs you see nowadays...not just trippy computer effects, or scenes from dark clubs of peoples feet...but real, good footage of the places Paul went, and the places he spun at...A must-have for all die-hard PvD fans!"
Perfection.

"This album by Paul Van Dyk is AMAZING. It never ceases to amaze me..I've been listening it to for months and months.

There is only one sub-par track (A Magical Moment). Every other song has to be some of the best trance I've ever heard.

We Are Alive is an excellent opener, followed by Seven Ways/Forbidden Fruit/Beautiful Place is a GREAT intro..

Truly beautiful. However, i believe that this album hits perfection starting with "Another Way".

The melodies are SUPERB, some of the best I've heard in any trance, EVER. Top three tracks are at the end:

1) Animacion

2) My World

3) For an Angel

PVD really hits the bullseye here with perfection..The only complaint is

"A Magical Moment" because of its rather sinister chord progression..

Every other song is BEAUTIFUL (and believe it or no, Beautiful Place is not

the most beautiful track on the album). Still shocked, this album

deserves 7.5 stars out of 5 stars, really. It exceeds every expectation I've had."
