In fact, four ladies have chosen to sing on have chosen to sing on Ladies' Choice, smooth jazz saxist Paul Taylor's latest. In order of appearance, they are LaToya London, Regina Belle, Terry Dexter, and Belle again. It makes sense that Belle gets two features: Her pop-soulful vocals bring a kind of Anita Baker intensity to the proceedings. On "How Did You Know" and "Open Your Eyes," both of which she co-wrote with the album's hitmaking producer, keyboardist Barry Eastmond (who has worked with Baker), she manages the feat of adding background vocals that contrast nicely with the lead ones. There's nothing particularly distinctive about Taylor's silky sound on alto and soprano, but the doubled-horn effects provide pop and he comes up with some distinctive effects on Vocoder. Guitarist Phil Hamilton's romantic wah-wah effects also deserve mention. --Lloyd Sachs

Compelling. Straight up at # 1 of the Billboard Contemporary

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Sax master and Smooth Jazz dynamic and distinctive leading figure Paul Taylor returns with his unique blend of Smooth jazz & Soul/RnB with "Ladies' Choice", his seventh album and his fourth realese for Peak Records.

Instrumental tracks like the first captivating single, "Ladies' Choice", the gorgeous "Streamline", the Boney James tinged "Summer's Ends" and the the harmonic and fluid "Overdrive" feauring Rex Rideout show Paul Taylor at his sleekest and his playing at its most soulful.

Vocal contributions from the incomparable song-stylist and grammy Award winner Regina Belle (" How Do You Know" and "Open Your eyes") and former American Idol contestant Latoya London ( "I Want To Be Loved By You") illustrate how his unique saxophone voices may wonderfully be paired with the sensual vocals of the four Lady guests.

The consummate, imaginative soprano sax player is the master of mixing Soul and the smooth, and he takes front and center stage, capturing the listener's heart and soul with seductive, impressive lines.

Produced by two of the greatest names in Jazz and R&B fields, Rex Rideout and Barry Eastmond, this is Paul Taylor's best and most accomplished album to date and is widely predicted to become one of the best reviewed jazz records of 2007 all around and deservedly one of the bestseller Jazz sets for many months to come.

A Grammy Award is in the cards, as well.

"Our ever-imaginative Paul has gone absolutely, deliciously and totally romantic this time!! He seems to love to explore new territory and this time he's outdone himself. This one is passionately, emotionally romantic, setting moods with soaring, rich and lush sweet melodies but changing up here and there to a faster pace with a few of his signature 'funky' additions like "Here We Go" but always keeping the core feeling of that moodily seductive theme. His work on the horn is as smooth and expert as ever...with each piece impeccably and wonderfully crafted and with expert arrangement and instrumentation embellishing perfectly his horn work and the ladies' vocals.

With Regina Belle, Latoya London (of AI fame) and others, he's picked his female vocalists well and they do a great job of contributing to the lusciously romantic feel of this album. "I Want to Be Loved" is a soulful number that just takes off and soars...Latoya and Paul do a wonderful 'duet' on this piece. Personal favorite is the lead: "Ladies Choice" but not far behind is "I Want to Be Loved", "How Did You Know" with Regina Belle's smooth sultry voice and the upbeat sound of "Here We Go". Also I'm lovin' the feeling and movement that Paul puts into the also upbeat number "Point of View". As a matter of fact, typically enough, in his consistent fashion, there are no lulls in the action on this one...every track a masterwork. No matter where he takes you on this song or that..you feel like you want to pick that partner...to dance or snuggle up to!

I feel strongly that this effort of Paul's deserves a 5 star rating! It is his best to date.

"Early opinions are in on the new Peak release from Smooth Jazz sax sensation Paul Taylor and it's unanimous... LADIES' CHOICE is his most soulful and passionate album to date. From the inviting title track (which also happens to be the first song on the album and the first radio single), Paul sets his tone on smooth and stylish. The gifted melody crafter raises the bar on this outing with super strong hooks, gripping rhythms and seductive melodies. "Here We Go" is living proof of this and in my opinion an excellent candidate for radio. Ladies, ladies, ladies... the ladies love Paul Taylor and he loves them right back with luscious duets on LADIES' CHOICE, featuring: LaToya London, the fourth-place finalist in the third season of American Idol on "I Want To Be Loved (By You)," silky songstress and Grammy-award winner Regina Belle on two tracks, "How Did You Know" and "Open Your Eyes," pop singer/songwriter Lauren Evans (currently on tour with Natasha Bedingfield) and vocalist Terry Dexter on "Long Distance Relationship." Vibrant Paul Taylor instrumental jazz intertwined with sax/vocal duets makes LADIES' CHOICE the perfect choice for summer listening. Paul Taylor will always be the quintessential Smooth Jazz artist to me... he embodies the genre with his effortless, sweet alto saxophone tone, comfortable stage presence and fashionable attire. His smile is as big as his contributions to our format!"
