Synopsis

Album Description
As inventors of the music hall, the French have created a tradition of literary chanson - be it poetic, satirical or dramatic - of which Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet and Patachou are among the most illustrious performers. Patachou, the protege of Edith Piaf, is the quintessential French chanteuse, and as Paris witnessed a veritable explosion of chanson clubs they launched the big stage careers of a post-war generation of glittering stars, among which Patachou was one of the most popular.

Patachou is Pleasing
Le Bibliothécaire | 01/23/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD features some of the best work of Patachou, a singer who has had success in the United States and France in music, theater and films. She appeared on the "Ed Sullivan" show many times and was a champion of Georges Brassens when he first came on the scene.

Patachou has a pleasant voice which often features wry humor and some risque lyrics. The songs on this CD range from up tempo songs like "Rue Lepic", and "Au bout de la semaine" to love songs like "Plus Bleu que tes Yeux"

She sings with Georges Brassens on "Papa Maman" and interprets several of his works, such as "Brave Margot" and "Les Amoureux des Bancs Publics" She does a very witty version of "Le Fiacre" made famous by Jean Sablon.

There is a double entendre song "Le joueur de Luth" which is delighful and a beautiful song about what life has to offer "Tire l'aiguille" Two songs about a woman's feelings about being rejected, "Domino" and "Les Petits paves" are quite powerful.

There is something here for everyone, even if one doesn't understand French. Patachou's voice is very pleasing.

The sound quality is below standard, however, with a noticeable hiss on several of the tracks. Despite that fact, this CD is highly recommended."
Patachou is a delight!

"This CD delivered exactly what I wanted! I missed PATACHOU, and was in a very sentimental mood. So I was so happy to get this CD and get her back again!"
