CD Reviews

Meditative Music from the Master
R. Scot Johns | Boise, Idaho United States | 09/10/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album was commissioned in 1982 as a piece for mediation, and is consequently much different that Chris Spheeris' other works. Composed by Spheeris and Paul Voudouris during their original incarnation as a duo prior to Spheeris' successful solo career, the three pieces are performed by the duo along with Vince Andrae, and evokes reminicences of early-mid period Tangerine Dream. Tracking in at 41 minutes (12, 8, and 20 minutes respectively), this is a wonderful disc to relax and drift away with."
Gentle sounds that stimulate the heart

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Chris Spheeris can do no wrong. This early release is a treasure to come upon, with a less "produced" feel than his later albums. If this could be compared to any later album, it might be certain selections of "Pathways to Surrender." Voudouris and Spheeris have never disappointed, as far as I'm concerned. Here are gentle and soothing sounds that move into places one can't foresee and are deeply satisfying to listen to. Simply beautiful."
Good if you like background sounds

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of Spheeris' music for a while. In general his music is very relaxing and inspirational. If you're in love, you'll find that his music expresses all that you feel inside you in such a way that couldn't be possible even by words. One of my favorite albums is Desires of the Heart.
With regard to this album, it's no music, but a kind of background sounds that (maybe) would aid you to meditate or to sleep; this last is what I've used it for, with good results.
I've given it 3 stars, because Spheeris can do things a lot better than this one. Perhaps it was good for him as a musical experiment, but this wasn't what I could expect from him."
