CD Reviews

You can Pass The Fruit again and again!
Fred McNaughton | Mount Joy, PA United States | 03/21/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In the world of Children's music I have found that there are two types of performers;1) Those who treat children with less than adult respect, they patronize, talk down to and otherwise insult the intelligence of their audience.AND 2) Those who treat their young audience with respect not only in the way they address them but in the amount of passion and energy they put into their performance and the amount of thought they put into their music and lyrics. You can rank Steven Courtney with the second group. This father of two not only sees himself as an educator and entertainer but also as a friend. He doesn't musically dumb down and he doesn't go for the usual children's performer lyrics that sometimes sound like a bad greeting card. He sees himself as a peer, which is accurate because Steven Courtney has never truly grown up. His child-like imagination is in full bloom and he is discovering the world along with his young listeners.Pass The Fruit is a 5 song CD that sounds great from start to finish. The Carribean-Reggae musical underpinnings add to the party-like atmosphere that Steven has created on this project. The usual Steven Courtney project roster is bolstered by former Rainchildren bandmates Steve Bridgeman on guitar and Aaron Gagne on percussion. Steve's family joins him as well, including a vocal appearance by his mom.Pass The Fruit is a project that will make you smile from beginning to end even after repeated listenings. I know! My family listened to it about 47 times that first weekend we got it and have listened many times since.Smile, dance, increase you faith and Pass The Fruit with Steven Courtney. It's a great experience that ranks with any children's project - barring none."
