Synopsis

Album Description
Expanded CD reissue of the 1984 debut album from the Liverpool pop band including four bonus tracks; 'Palm Of My Hand', 'Love's A Beautiful Place', 'Meadow Of Love' and 'Thank You'. Led by singer/songwriter Michael Head, The Pale Fountains broke away from the edgier sound of fellow Liverpudlians Echo & The Bunnymen and Teardrop Explodes, creating a light, breezy Pop sound on their early singles before drifting towards a slightly more ominous yet still melodic sound for this debut. The album's upbeat tracks contain a dark center while the mellow tracks contain an atmospheric, pastoral beauty that is both sad and uplifting. The band would record one more album before splitting and Head would re-emerge nearly a decade later fronting Shack. EMI.

CD Reviews

Indie pop masterpiece
M. Bellingham | Minneapolis, MN | 05/01/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Pacific Street is one of the top three pop masterpieces of the 1980's -- other two being Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen and Style Council - Our Favorite Shop. If you liked those, you'll like the Spanish-tinged, guitar-driven songs of the Pale Fountains. Adventurous and spirited, though the singing has its off moments, musicianship is solid throughout. Best songs -- Something on My Mind, you'll start a war, Crazier... Extra tracks are pretty cool, though I'd also recommend the Longshot for Your Love singles compilation for completists."
