A beautiful collection

"Eileen Farrell was unfamiliar to me before I bought this recording, but since then I have become a dedicated fan. That an opera singer should be able to perform popular songs so convincingly is a wonder in itself, but Miss Farrell's very special style deserves more praise than that. She brings out the inherent mood of each song without a trace of artifice, exploring the emotions in the lyric to the full. Songs like "Where Do You Start", "Gone With The Wind" and "The Shining Sea" have never sounded so sincere and heartbreaking. Robert Farnon's warm strings are a superb foil for Miss Farrell's interpretations. This album may be difficult to obtain, but make the effort if you relish fine songs sung by a master interpreter."
