CD Reviews

The Horror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stanley Runk | Camp North Pines | 04/04/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Writing a review of a horrorpunk band is relatively easy. This particular subgenre of punk rock is derived solely from the sound of The Misfits, so most bands have that Misfits sound to some degree. Most horrorpunk bands do try to put their own personal stamp on what they do however. While not terribly original in sound, the best thing a band like this can do is at least have good, catchy, hard hitting songs. Germany's The Other accomplishes this in spades. Taking The Misfits' face paint up a notch, The Other transform their appearance into full blown horror creatures. Not as elaborate as the hulking monsters in Gwar or Lordi, but enough to make them look like they stepped out of a cheap zombie film. The sound? It's heavy, it's catchy and lyrically it's a bit sharper than you usually hear in this genre. The songs are also a bit longer than you'd expect, alot of them clocking in at 3-4 minutes. Like I said, there's not a whole lot else to say other than if you like this genre, this album is a more than worthy addition to your collection. Most tracks are quite strong, and even the weakest of the bunch are good songs. Youtube has a video for their song, Lover's Lane. Check it out. That video will give you a very good idea on the sound and feel of this album, and you can judge accordingly."
