CD Reviews

Improvisations on Zen
Bodhi Heeren | Copenhagen | 08/23/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In this MP3-audiobook we get all the talks from the book of the same name. As often with Osho the talks oscillate between commentaries to selected texts, in this case some beautiful anecdotes from the world of Zen, and questions from disciples and other seekers. And as always Osho's interest is not scholarly at all, but existential: how to point us towards the Beyondness from which he speaks.

Although Osho was independent of all traditions, Zen was certainly the one closest to his heart, in fact the last year of his life he exclusively talked about Zen, albeit a more relaxed, humorous form than the traditional rather rigid and disciplined monastic version.

Osho always said that the real important was not what he said, but the gaps, the profound silence between the words. And that one should listen to him like to the wind playing with the leaves, the brook running amongst the stones.

And in fact listening to his soft, melodic voice is not at all like listening to a traditional lecturer. It's a lot more like hearing a master-improvisator like Jerry Garcia or Ravi Shankar taking flight!

In the talks on this audiobook you actually come across almost the whole spectrum of views and questions related to the human search for higher dimensions of life. And it's certainly a beautiful finger pointing to the moon of Truth beyond words and concepts. Talking us into the space from which the existential jump to meditation can happen. The moment when the eternal perfection opens up, the moment all you can say is: "Ah This!"."
