CD Reviews

What a day!
Michael Marcotte | Washington, DC | 07/12/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"What a day it must have been in the recording studio as four master musicians came together creating a sensational album in single take tracks. Clark Terry recalls how there "was such a groove that day" in the nice liner notes. Since they finished up in half the time reserved for the studio, for the first time they recorded "Mumbles" where Terry shows off his scatting; it's truly memorable. This album ranges from the powerful and energetic "Brootherhood of Man" to the sublime "Jim," where Terry seems to be two musicians at once as he uses the mute with great effect. Every track, though, is indespensible. If you're a dancer, "Blues for Smedley", "Brotherhood of Man", "Mumbles", "Mack the Knife" amongst others are a delight on the floor.Highly recommended."
