Synopsis

Album Description
The pit band of the circus circuit has re-emerged. Having mastered the underbelly of carney rock on their self-titled debut, oRSo advances through added layers of melody and harmony creating a record of unexpected depth and beauty. Phil Spirito tells tales of horse racing, low level mobsters, lady pyromaniacs, bull riding truck drivers and tiny ghost horses. Banjo, oil can, pianos and tenor guitars merge with electronic trickery to bring about this beautiful collection of vocal and instrumental yarns. Long Time By takes a giant step forward in oRSo?s evolution from worldly bum to tender-hearted hustler. Recorded at Clava Studios winter 1999/spring 2000 by Brian Deck

CD Reviews

A lover?s waltz, a waltzer's love...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"On their self-titled 1998 debut, oRSo sound like Tom Waits and Rex (for whom cuddly, bearded bandleader Phil Spirito is/was bassist) and the Penguin Café Orchestra tripping barefoot through as starlit Appalachia twilight. Beautiful, strange... altogether an excellent start. But LONG TIME BY is a slice of pure heaven served warm on the back porch - with a little fresh cream on the side, for extra yumminess. There is nothing more delicious than this homemade confection - wrought with magic and love, fraught with mystery and despair. I doubledog dare you not to be enchanted with its swirls of banjo, guitar, strings, harmonoium and mysterious percussion."
Not my cup of tea...

"...got this from a friend. Not to be harsh w/ my rating, just wasn't anything I enjoyed."
Still a great album...

"this album was recorded seven years ago. it is still ahead of its time. listen to this if you would enjoy dancing through a circus of fire and not remembering the walk home. brian deck is a genius. spirito is amazing. i recommend purchasing the entire perishable catalogue. this is a good place to start."
