Product DescriptionOrquestra Imperial is a Brazilian big band that grew out of the trio of Moreno Veloso, Domenico Lancellotti and Kassin. Instead of the contemporary pop and electronica of Moreno Veloso + 2, though, Orquestra Imperial plays the old-school dancehall samba style called gafieira. With 19 musicians and singers, including the Brazilian actress and pop star Thalma de Freitas and the samba veteran Wilson das Neves, Orquestra Imperial has attracted bigger and bigger crowds to its shows in Brazil and abroad and has engendered a gafieira revival. Even Moreno's dad, Caetano Veloso, has jumped on the bandwagon.Carnaval só ano que vem is Orquestra Imperial's debut album. The 14 tracks include original songs by several of the performers along with a few gafieira classics. Produced by Mario Caldato (Beck, Bjork, Seu Jorge, Jack Johnson et alia), the record sustains a spirited 'live' sound that blends voices, acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards, horns, woodwinds and plenty of percussion. In the marvelous way that much of the best Brazilian music does, Carnaval só ano que vem sounds simultaneously nostalgic and cutting-edge. Most of all, it's fun!
