"To begin with, the 1959 Hammer Films release "The Mummy" is one of their best. It boasts dazzling Technicolor photography, sumptuous sets, good performances, and is topped with a remarkable score by Franz Reizenstein, his only score for Hammer. And what a score! From its rousing theme, replete with chorus (somewhat reminiscent of Bernard Herrmann's and Alfred Newman's score for "The Egyptian"), to its insane xylophones, this is a horror/adventure film score par excellence. This is the complete score, taken from the actual soundtrack, and has been digitally cleaned up and enhanced. There is also the added bonus of a wonderful introduction by horror legend Christopher Lee (who portrayed Kharis the mummy in the film), who, in his words, dubs this score the "best" of the Hammer Film scores."
