Synopsis

Album Description
In a remarkable career that has spanned more than seven decades, Robert Noehren has excelled as international concert organist, organ scholar/teacher and organ builder. Through grants from the Carnegie Foundation and the University of Michigan, Noehren toured France, Germany and Holland extensively, gathering data on the classical organs of these countries. He ultimately formed his own company and produced twenty organs. The Bach recordings of this CD have not been previously released and were made in 1980 on Noehren organs in Buffalo and Milwaukee. Vernon Gotwals, writing in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, sums up Noehren's playing as follows: ... his scholarly pursuits ... have not diminished his technical supremacy in which great ease and absolute accuracy serve the music played. These recordings are issued in celebration of Noehren's ninetieth birthday.
