CD Reviews

Her best album yet!
01/10/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ophélie has returned from years of absense from the music scene with her best album yet -- "Explicit Lyrics!" Rest assured there is not one explicit lyric on the album that I know of, though. She's returned to her musical roots of neo-R&B à la "No Soucy," her first album that made her one of the most famous women in France, with mega-hits like Dieu M'a Donné La Foi, Le Feu Qui M'Attise, and Shame On U. After spending some time as an actress in many French movies, she's back. The new album has been compared to the sound of Brandy's "Full Moon." There has already been a top 10 single "Sache."There is none other like Ophélie Winter. Even in France, no female artist's music compares in style and sound. She is the most gorgeous star out there. It is quite surprising that America has yet to discover her. If any of her albums can make her a mega-star in America, "Explicit Lyrics" is it! Let's just hope that an English version is recorded (English versions of her previous albums (No Soucy! [Soon], and Privacy [Privacy] have been recorded). Once they get a taste, I assure you it will be Ophélie-fever! (For those who are doubtful, may I remind you that America didn't even know Kylie Minogue existed for the past decade until they were mesmerized by "Can't Get You Out of My Head!" There ARE legitimate stars out there that are unknown to America.) Ophélie is no stranger to America. She actually spent many years there growing up, and learned to sing and dance there. As a result, she is fluent in English."
