Excellent...with reservations

"I'm a huge fan of Omar Sosa and Afreecanos. In fact, I just saw them perform last night in support of "Across the Divide." FABULOUS. However, this CD does not thrill me quite as much as his previous works, particularly "Sentir" and "Mulattos." Partly, it's just the style. I fall into the more melodic category of jazz listener, whereas this CD is...to my ears...more experimental. I definitely understand and fully appreciate where he is going with it. Sosa's spiritual tangent has never been clearer than on "Across the Divide," but if you are like me and want grooves to dance by or simply relax by and be swept away, some of the cuts on "AtD" will jar a bit, rather than calm. That's not a put-down by any means, just a heads-up."
