In the realm of the organ, Louis Vierne (1870-1937) established himself as a very great creator; however this very area, which other musicians often consider with some disdain, has cast a shadow over the rest of his output, even though it has assured his survival. Vierne was above all a composer, the organ providing only one of many means of expression, for he dealt with all musical genres except opera, successfully bequeathing masterpieces in each of them.
