CD Reviews

Great music, Great guys, Great message

"These guys are a Christian Rock band from Haleiwa on the North Shore of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. I know all four of these guys personally, and they are all extremely easy going.

This CD is their debut album. It's also one of my favorite albums I own. Their music is similar to Blink 182, Relient K and Dogwood.

The songs are as follows;

1.Stars & Stripes: 10/10 Great intro, great lyrics, and great chorus. This song is my 3rd favorite on the album.

2. Butterflies: 8/10 My least favorite song, but still awesome. It is their poppiest sounding song, but it still has that rock sound to it.

3. Along The Way: 9/10 Starts out with Reed (Bass, Lead Vocals) singing while being faded out, then the band starts playing and they start to rock out. Just like all the other songs on the album, great message if you listen.

4. Heaven: 13/10 My favortie on the album. It's a little different than their other songs, they start out with Reed and his bass, then he says one verse. it is a bit softer during the verses, and then they just rock out during the chorus. This song has the greatest and most powerful message on the album.

5. Shut it Out: 10/10 Their first single. Great song, great lyrics. Great rock song. The chorus is also amazing. Just an amazing song.

6. 39: 10/10 Their most hardcore sound to the album. On their demo album, it was good, they made it so much better on this one though. Just hardcore rocking through the whole song. A lot of energy in this one.

7. Saturday: 10/10 This song is about living here on the North Shore. It points out some of the great things about living here, like Matsumoto's Shaved Ice (The Shaved Ice place.) Just a great song. Great rock song.

8. Kill the Gray: 10/10 Great bass intro, a little calmer at the begining, but then they kick it into high gear for a few chords, then back to a good mix between mellow and hard rock. Great lyrics, and in a few parts, they actually sing in hebrew. And for some reason, at their concert, that was on Jan 21 in Haleiwa, just hectic by the way, I was singing along to it, and didn't even realize it untill afterwards.

9. Look to the Stars: 9/10 This is a soft song compaired to their other ones, kinda like Butterflies, but it doesn't have that poppy sound to it. All rock, mostly soft rock. Great lyrics.

10. Novacaine: 9/10 Awesome hardcore song, their second most hardcore on the album. Not much of an intro, it just gets right into the song. Great song. Lots of energy through the entire song. The only soft part is during the bridge, but when you listen to it, it is needed for those lyrics.

11. Kid Innocence: 11/10 Starts out with Reed singing really softly, then he just starts going crazy with this song. Really hardcore sound, great message. This song is about how some people just live for themselves and no one else, and how afterwards, they feel like they have forgotten to do somethng and have waisted time, and how they realize this and ask for guidence in life. My second favorite song on the album. It also has an awesome piano closure for 20 seconds.

12. Missing Me: 10/10 This is the only acoustic song on the album. Like acoustic songs on a rock album, it's a lot softer than the other songs. A great closing song for the album. Awesome lyrics, great acoustic sound. the last 30 seconds are just birds and the ocean waves, a nice day at the beach.

The guys of this band, Reed (lead singer/Bass player), Justin (Lead guitarist/back up vocalist), Gabe (guitar/back up vocalist) and Christian (Drummer) are all nice, easy going guys. All of them have a great sense of humor and are just fun-loving guys.

If you were wondering how they came up with the name Olivia, it's a deep story. Justin, the lead guitarist and back up vocalist, was going to have a little sister. But 8 months into the pregancy, his mom had a still-birth. They were going to name here Olivia, so they took that and made it their name. Their logo is a little girl (Olivia) walking in Heaven, holding hands with God."

"You seriously can't be in a bad mood while listening to this album. Every song is really upbeat and every song sounds different (unlike some bands today). I've also met these guys in person and they honestly are the nicest, funniest people. One of the best albums I've heard in a long time...and are pretty much my new favorite band. They make you feel like you're there with them in Hawaii (where they grew up)!"
