CD ReviewsVery glad to meet you Bomojaz | South Central PA, USA | 09/05/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is Oliver Nelson's first album as a leader (October 1959), and it's a start to be proud of. JAMS AND JELLIES and BOOZE BLUES BABY are two medium blues compositions done to perfection. It's unusual to find two standards on an Oliver Nelson CD (Strayhorn's PASSION FLOWER and Bob Haggart's WHAT'S NEW), and both are performed well in ballad treatment. Ray Bryant is on piano and he is superb, especially his solo work. Kenny Dorham is on trumpet, and he is not quite up to his usual great playing; chalk it up to an off day for him. It is a collection showing the wonderful playing, writing and arrangements of Oliver Nelson.
