CD Reviews

Jarring Mayhem with Musical Precision and Powerful Grooves.
10/09/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Nothingface makes the kind of metal that connects with fans of Korn, Deftones, Sepultura, Slayer and the like. If you like new breeds of metal and hardcore, you should absolutely listen to this band. They never rely on drum machines, DJs, or other elements of hip-hop and electronica - but the grooves are forceful, and intricate. The rhthym section pounds with precision and intensity - just listen to the opening of "Defaced", or the time keeping in "Self Punishment" and "Hitched". The vocals are scortched-earth, and the riffing is groove-core approved - low, chunky and intense. The production, while outstanding, lacks that certain major-label high-gloss that costs tens of thousands of dollars. You won't miss it though. A killer debut."
My favorite band

"Nothingface is my favorite band for a number of reasons. Matt Holt has by far the best singing voice in the hardcore genre AND the best screaming voice in the genre. Second, the riffs that Tom Maxwell comes up with are absolutely mind-blowing. They are so complex and extremely catchy. This is one of the only bands that can go from absolutely sick & brutal parts right to very melodic, almost hypnotizing soft parts. This album is absolutely amazing, and Everyday Atrocity(if you can believe it or not) is even better. I was slightly disappointed by violence because matt's screaming voice isn't as brutal but the songs are still as well written as before.....And they are mind-blowing to see live, I've seen them 3 times and my mouth is watering for more...Go out and buy this CD then listen to it for a while, you will be amazed. You won't think it can get any better....then buy Everyday Atrocity, and listen to, what I believe is the best hardcore album ever."
WARNING: This Beats The Sh*t Out Of You!

"I was lucky to get a 10 dollar discount on this, because this was 18 bucks! Anyways, this album is a classic. "One Thing", the opener, is the perfect opener to this epic. "Pacifier" is a brutal track as well that pummels you down, and "Defaced" has some great guitar work to it. "Perfect Person" and "Undercut" beat you down and make you suffer, in a good way. This band has been labeled as a "nu metal" band. Well, this disc is in the vein of Korn's self-titled debut, but it is enhanced with more memorable guitar riffs. Nothingface isn't exactly nu metal, though. They are just straight-in-your-face metal that delivers. It sucks that they split, since I have never seen these guys in concert. :'( Oh well.

Even if you hate nu metal, you should give this a try."
