Perfect recording of music for cornetts and trombones

"There is very little I can say about this splendid recording, the music speaks for itself.

This is simply one of the best recordings of music for cornetts and (early) trombones in the catalogues. If you have any interest or curiosity about the cornetto and the sackbut, this is the disc you should buy. You will hear a variety of works from the beautiful Sonata XXI con tre violini overo altri istromenti by Giovanni Gabrieli (beautifully played on three cornetti - Concerto Palatino taking the "altri istromenti" option! ;-)) , to "double choir" works featuring four cornetti and 4 tromboni (and basso continuo).

A very good range of composers are presented, from Lodovico da Viadana to Claudio Merulo to Francesco Usper to Francesco Cavalli to cornetto virtuosos, Ascanio Trombetti, and, of course, the great Giovanni Gabrieli. The Canzon decimanona à 8 by Rogier Trofeo is a particular nice work and very typical of the double choir works presented here and I had the opportunity to perform this work in an ensemble after hearing this CD.

Please seriously consider buying this recording if you are a lover of Early Baroque music, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

"If you like one Concerto Palatino album, you'll want them all. This CD has been discontinued, but all its contents are available as part of this 2 CD set: Italian Music for Cornets and Trombones (1580-1680)"
