60's garage done 70's style
Robert Schell | Townsville, Texas | 09/24/2002

"The Nomads were a group with obvious 60's garage rock roots who played with a more 70's Stooges/NY Dolls kind of sound. On their best songs they're every bit as good as the Cramps or the Dolls (or better), but they did some pretty humdrum and plodding stuff as well. "The way you touch my hand" is one of the great power-pop/rock 'n' roll songs of all time, and should be in your collection. Other early numbers like "Where the wolfbane blooms" and "Real gone lover" are a gas, too. Before buying this collection, I'd only had an old l.p. copy of their first American album "Outburst," and I found some of the later material on this collection somewhat disappointing. The second disc in this set, which is all rarities, made it up for me -- lots of excitement there. It should be noted that a good number of the songs on here are covers, mostly 60's garage groups like the Sonics and Third Bardo, but also some 70's groups like Blue Oyster Cult and Hawkwind, even. Anyone cool enough to cover both "Motorhead" and "I'm five years ahead of my time" is alright by me!"
